Give Peace. #GiveForDV.

Dear friend,

Every day, DVSSP helps survivors of domestic violence escape abuse, find peace, and rebuild their lives, for themselves and for their children. #Every1KnowsSome1 who likely has, or is experiencing abuse — 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience severe physical violence in their lifetimes. We all can take action to help create safer communities for those experiencing abuse in their relationships in southwestern PA. This holiday season, please #GiveForDV by donating to DVSSP.

There’s a common misconception that someone in an abusive relationship can and should ‘just leave.’ Abuse is so much more than physical, it’s emotional, verbal, and financial, too, so there are real and significant barriers for anyone who wants to leave. I am so proud of the work we do and the strength of the survivors we help everyday. I wanted to share some words recently written by a client about the work we do and why your support is so important.

“I entered into the safe house doors angry, scared, broken, confused, completely mentally and spiritually drained. It seemed so impossible in the beginning, there were days I wanted to give up and give in, but I refused to. The amazing DVSSP staff never allowed me to fold. They became the support system that helped me through it all. The days I needed to vent, they were there. I could either allow domestic violence (to) make me or break me. I chose life. I chose my child. I choose forgiveness.”

This client and her daughter are now living in their own apartment and are working to rebuild their lives free from violence and abuse. Stories like this are not uncommon in southwestern PA, and are made possible because of the generosity of our donors. When you #GiveForDV, you not only help people living with abuse, you help create a safer world, and help end domestic violence in our communities.

As we close out 2022, please consider a gift to DVSSP to ensure that survivors of domestic violence can find safety and peace during the holidays and beyond. Together, we will keep standing up for survivors, and keep working until domestic violence is eliminated for everyone.

With gratitude,
